Lab Technician

Job Duties/Responsibilities Take samples of asphalt emulsions and binders from storage tanks for testing. Perform testing on asphalt emulsions and binders in accordance with standard methods and practices as directed. Thoroughly document work performed in the lab by completing test records and recording results in an electronic data system and / or generating test reports as required. Perform cleaning duties including cleaning of glassware, lab equipment and lab environment as needed. Work collaboratively with and provide support to other technicians in the lab and occasionally plant personnel and operations to help meet goals and objectives set by management. Always work in a safe and responsible manner Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Higher education or lab experience considered a plus. Good organizational skills. Good communication skills. Self-motivated and can complete duties in a self-directed manner without supervision. The ability to handle multiple tasks with competing deadlines simultaneously. Able to learn and follow written methods and procedures, and document demonstrated procedures so they can be followed and performed. Knowledge of or experience following ASTM, AASHTO or other standardized testing methods considered a plus. Valid drivers license. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Binder Lab Manager 
Asphalt Testing Solutions and Engineering (ATS) 
Jacksonville, Florida

The Binder Lab Manager reports to the Director of Engineering and will oversee all aspects of the Asphalt Binder Lab in Jacksonville, Florida, including, client satisfaction, quality control, certification reporting, research support, and maintenance of accreditation. Products supported by the ATS Binder Lab include performance graded asphalt binders, polymer modified asphalt binders, emulsified asphalts and cutback asphalts.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain technical expertise in asphalt and heavy oil products including testing procedures, applications and use, modification and blending techniques, rheological characteristics, chemistry and performance

• Monitor product quality by developing and implementing quality control standards and procedures

• Responds to technical issues concerning product specification and performance, product advantages and/or competition

• Builds relationships with external partners responsible for asphalt products

• Maintain the Asphalt Binder Lab’s AASHTO accreditation to include monitoring and participating in various proficiency programs

• Work with the Asphalt Binder Engineer on product development and research

Education & Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience testing and working with asphalt products or petroleum products

• Asphalt Binder Certification is a plus

Binder Lab Technician

The Binder Lab Technician reports to the Binder Lab Manager and completes testing of asphalt binder through AASHTO and ASTM test procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Collect and document samples

• Perform basic calibrations and equipment maintenance

• Follow direction and guidelines on research and development projects

• Provide project progress during group meetings

• Maintain a clean and orderly workspace in the lab Qualifications & Experience:

• Knowledge and ability to perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication

• Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and methods

• Ability to read and use basic measuring devices such as scales and calipers

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Highly organized • One year of materials quality control experience or related

Emulsion Lab Technician
Asphalt Testing Solutions and Engineering (ATS) 
Jacksonville, Florida

The Emulsion Lab Technician reports to the Binder Lab Manager and completes testing of emulsified asphalts per AASHTO, ASTM, and other test procedures as needed.

Responsibilities: • Learn, understand, and apply testing best practices for testing asphalt emulsions

• Maintain neat data worksheets as they apply to each project as required by the lab’s accreditation and standard operating procedures

• Collect and document samples

• Perform basic calibrations and equipment maintenance

• Follow direction and guidelines on research and development projects

• Clearly communicate project progress during group meetings

• Maintain a clean and orderly workspace in the lab

• Maintain a technician rating of 3 or greater during participation in AASHTO resource’s proficiency program

Qualifications & Experience:

• Knowledge and ability to perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication

• Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and methods

• Ability to read and use basic measuring devices such as scales and calipers

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Highly organized

• Laboratory and/or mechanical experience or related is a plus PDH Requirement:

• 2 PDH’s annually

• Requirement necessary after year one.
