Polymer Modified Asphalt Engineer

The Polymer Modified Asphalt Engineer (PMA Engineer) is critical to the Owens Corning Roofing Business as polymer modified asphalt materials represent a significant and growing portion of our product portfolio, including our self-adhered underlayments, Duration and Oakridge Series asphalt shingles, and other applications. As a PMA Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing process solutions for new or improved PMA formulations, and you will collaborate with our operations teams to ensure our existing PMA materials are manufactured efficiently and to the highest quality. You will also be responsible for delivering supply security and margin enhancement through PMA formulation development and optimization by integrating strong material science and process fundamentals to self-adhered underlayments (SAU) and shingles in our polymer modified asphalt applications. The work will include process development, operations support, formulation optimization, lab testing and prototyping, improving scale-up capabilities, pilot and plant trials, data collection and analysis, cross-functional project management, and partnership with external vendors.

Lab Technician 1

Entry Level position with room to grow performing testing on either asphalt emulsions or asphalt binders for certification purposes. This position would also preform entry level calibrations and equipment maintenace.

  • Collaborate with local teams, engineers, contractors, etc. to determine scope and specifics of projects. 
  • Review project plans and specifications, identify possible cost saving measures, and potential project problems.
  • Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues.
  • Assist in the review of project deliverables for quality, accuracy, and completeness. 
  • Monitor and maintain project schedule.
  • Approve final design for project, with the assistance of professional advisors/engineers, and technical staff.
  •  Provide assistance in the procurement process, encompassing pre-qualification of contractors, bids, receipts, evaluation of bids, and making appropriate recommendations to the Management/Executive teams.
  • Assisting with the management of contractors and internal maintenance personnel onsite to ensure they meet the standards set fourth, and timely execution of project elements. 
  • Periodically assess the work of contractors, measure work completed, and make recommendations as needed. 
  • Process all shop/engineering drawings for approval and review. 
  • Oversee and track completion of testing required for project completion. (start-up, QC, API, etc.) 
  • Work on-site during various stages of project when required.
