I have been working on the asphalt laboratory devices, particularly Superpave applications since January 2017 in terms of asphalt binder (e.g., RV, DSR, BBR, RTFO, PAV, and VO); aggregates (e.g., sieve analysis & gradation, fine & coarse aggregate angularity (uncompacted voids & fracture faces respectively), fine & coarse aggregate specific gravity, clay content (sand equivalent), and flat and elongated particles); asphalt mix (e.g., mix, Rice, gyratory compactor, APA, moisture sensitivity using indirect tension test and Hamburg).
Regarding the crumb rubber modifier (CRM), my advisor is a professional expert in this point of research. I read several papers concerning modified asphalt pavement, particularly crumb rubber modifier as a known asphalt modifier for a long time. Consequently, I hope to proceed on the same track to achieve extra creative and innovative research work in the asphalt laboratory and additional external laboratories if possible (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, and Material Science & Engineering laboratories) regarding how to improve the chemical and physical properties of the asphalt binder, hence the asphalt mix.
Likewise, guayule resin (one of the guayule plant derivatives as a leftover) is a bio-based material that we are trying to utilize as a new additive to the asphalt-rubber binder, attempting to figure out solutions regarding sustainability, environment, and economic aspects in the asphalt industry. We hope to get a clear image of the potential of employing guayule resin in the asphalt industry, mainly regarding the asphalt-rubber binder enhancement. The whole idea in the final destination is how to create an innovative asphalt replacer for sustainable pavement.
Over the next two years, I hope to finish my Ph.D. program by acquiring a strong background in the asphalt industry to push myself for proceeding to a higher level and be hired in a reputable university to keep going in the same research specialization.
