|Please write a short essay on activities and/or interest in asphalt technology|
As a project engineer intern at Trumbull Corporation, I had the opportunity to experience various asphalt paving projects. Specifically, I was able to contribute to the construction of Cooks Road, which will serve as an access road, connecting the Pittsburgh Southern Beltway to the McDonald Sportsmen’s Association. Assisting Foreman, Joseph Marchewka, I prepared a storm-water installation schedule which effectively described the details for several storm-water sewers and pipes underneath Cooks Road. Then, I assisted Foremen, Mathew Bell, grade and fine-grade Cooks Road in preparation of asphalt paving. Working alongside Crew Chief, Todd Kahrig, and Surveyor, Thomas Hazlett, I helped layout where the asphalt will be placed. A few days later, Trumbull’s sister company, Lindy Paving, began preparing for the setting of the asphalt. Assisting Site Safety Manager, Robert Ward, I prepared Personal Protective Equipment, and administered the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Safety training and documentation. Next, I supported Lindy Paving during two days of paving by being the contact point between Trumbull Corporation and Lindy Paving. This experience allowed me to appreciate the work of asphalt contractors and allowed me to learn more about the industry.

Highway engineers are pioneers of innovation, masterminds of design, and leaders in society. Eager to transform my dream of becoming a highway engineer into my reality, I have interned at Trumbull Corporation, a leader in highway construction. As a project engineer at Trumbull, I worked on the $800 million Southern Beltway expressway that pioneers through the rolling hills and valleys of southwestern Pennsylvania, connecting Pittsburgh International Airport to Interstate 79, a major Pittsburgh area traffic corridor. During my time with Trumbull, I was able to experience the construction of a full interchange, dual eight-span composite steel multi-girder bridges, dual single-span multi-girder bridges, four precast concrete box culverts, one single-span precast concrete arch bridge, one single-span composite prestressed concrete PA bulb-tee beam bridge, and reconstruction of State Route 980, Fort Cherry Road, and Noblestown Road.

|Discuss your hobbies and interests|
As a former basketball and baseball player, sports have always been a huge part of my life. In addition to playing sports, I also enjoy watching sporting events. Specifically, I enjoy attending Ohio State football and basketball games. Buckeyes is an experience like no other and is what separates Ohio State from other colleges. Singing Carmen Ohio, watching the Marching Band dot the "i" in Script Ohio, and the rivalry with Michigan is the most enjoyable part of being apart of the Ohio State community.
Another interest of mine is personal finance. I enjoy listening to several financial podcasts such as "The Dave Ramsey Show" and "The Money Guy Show" which discuss ways individuals can become financially successful. My favorite segment on The Dave Ramsey Show channel is “The Millionaire Theme Hour.” This consists of millionaires who call into his show and discuss how they have achieved a net worth of over one million dollars. Often they elaborate on what it truly means to have considerable wealth. They do not emphasize that they have an extravagant house or have ten expensive cars, but rather they focus on the satisfaction of working hard to earn a livable wage, saving money, giving to charitable causes, and enjoying life. After hearing about others’ successes, I hope to heed their advice and emulate their prosperity over the course of my own life.
Finally, I enjoy traveling with family. As a kid I have been fortunate to be able to travel domestically, and internationally. Some of my favorite destinations include Aruba in the Southern Caribbean, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and St. John U.S. Virgin Island. At these locations, I enjoy visiting new restaurants, snorkeling, and building sandcastles.
