Dave Jones Scholarship 2020

Road Construction in general has been an interest of mine because I enjoy seeing the before and after effects of a large scale road improvement project. I come from the fast growing west side of San Antonio Texas and over the last two decades the growth in that area has exploded. Being a car dominated city all that development has been connected by roads. I have noticed following the completion of a new stretch of road; houses apartments and entertainment districts will pop up within a few months of completion.
Last year TXDOT completed a roughly 7 mile stretch of new highway on loop 1604 on the west side. I followed the project from the planning stage, concept drawings, Right of Way acquisition, construction, and finally completion. The whole process to me was fascinating to witness and I continue to follow new construction I hear about in my home city.

I currently work with an Engineering and surveying firm that is surveying the entire stretch of US 77 in Kenedy County Texas. (Approximately 50 miles). TXDOT is our client. For what reason they want the survey is above my pay grade but I have enjoyed the project up to this point. We're about 5 months into it with more than half remaining. I can only hope my surveying efforts today will be used for a future project they plan on developing for this stretch of highway.

After completing my first semester at Texas A&M Corpus Christi I was selected to join the universities Honor program.

Construction in general has always fascinated me. From planning, construction, and completion I have always had this niche for it.

I'm a part of GISSO (Geographic Information Systems Student Organization) at Texas A&M. Basically it's program that exposes us to the world of land surveying and map making across the US. They invite guest speakers from across the state to talk to us about the industry and also about infrastructure projects that are currently needing students such as myself to plan and develop future of infrastructure.
